NDRF teams rescue/evacuate over 80 people in rain ravaged Junagadh/Gir Somnath, body of washed away youth also recovered

NDRF teams have rescued/evacuated over 80 people today in rain-ravaged Junagadh and Gir Somnath district while the body of a youth washed away in rain-water last evening has also been recovered by it.

The NDRF teams have rescued/evacuated 25 people in Maliya taluka of Junagadh, 53 in Vasuj and 6 in Sonpar of Una taluka of Gir Somnath district.

Another NDRF team has recovered the body of one Devendra B Chavda, who was washed away with his bike last evening in Bhupgadh village of Rajkot. His body has been fished out in Jetpur area today.

Today, till 4 pm 114 talukas have witnessed rain of which Manavadar in Junagadh has seen 275 mm in only 8 hours, Vasanda in Navsari district in South Gujarat has seen 222 mm, Khabaliya in Devbhoomi Dwarka 186mm, Ranavav in Porbandar 164 mm and Porbandar 158mm, Vagahi in Dangs 159mm, Lalpur in Jamnagar 144, Mendarana in Junagadh 150mm,Vanthali in Junagadh144 mm.

In last 24 hours at least 3 deaths due to rain or related incidents have been reported. One person each was washed away in rain waters while crossing flooded roads/causeways in Rajkot and Tapi districts while a 22 year old lady died when lightening struck her in Paddhar area of Kutch district.
