SVPI Airport Police Station starts functioning in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja today inaugurated a new police station dedicated exclusively to the Ahmedabad airport area in the city. The new police station at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has become 53rd police station of city. Earlier, the airport area was under Sardarnagar police station which is located 6 kilometers away from the airport premises.
The new police station will also be in charge of controlling and monitoring the traffic inside and immediately outside the airport. The airport police station is headed by a police inspector aided by 6 police sub-inspectors, 30 head constables, 37 constables and three police drivers.The police station will completely be dedicated to handling issues at the airport and will look after no other area. Even cases of deportation and of illegal immigration will be first reported to the airport police station and then by the order of the police commissioner they can be transferred to specialized agencies.
Minister of State for Home Shri Jadeja said the present building of Airport police station is temporary one. A new building of same police station will be constructed in heritage theme to complement the world heritage status given to the city by UNESCO.
The inauguration function was held in presence of State DGP, city police commissioner, airport director, local MLA and other dignitaries.
