Ahmedabad’s wait for a ‘good-spell’ of monsoon rain might end next week, depends on a ‘low pressure’ system over bay of Bengal: Met Director

Ahmedabad:

The wait for a good-spell of monsoon rain for Ahmedabad, the most populated district of Gujarat, might end next week if a low pressure system over bay of Bengal moves towards the western state.

The intensity of rainfall over rain-ravaged Saurashtra will however drastically reduce today onward.

Under the effect of two systems over and around Gujarat parts of South Gujarat and East Central Gujarat will experience

Director of IMD center here, Jayanta Sarkar today said that currently there was one upper air cyclonic circulation system over South Gujarat and adjoining region above mean sea level between 3.1 km to 7.6 km. Another low pressure area is over central Madhya Pradesh.

‘Though the rainfall activity over Saurashtra region will drastically reduce, in next two days parts of South Gujarat will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall while that of East Central Gujarat including Dahod, Panchmahals, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur etc will see spells of heavy rains,’ Sarkar said.

He said that for the next four days Ahmedabad and North Gujarat region will experience only light to moderate spells of rain.
‘A low pressure over bay of Bengal has developed and if it moves and reaches Gujarat in strong enough manner, then there could be good rain over Ahmedabad and North Gujarat region. But at this juncture nothing can be said with certainty. It might reach Gujarat or become weaker even before that,’ the IMD center Director said.

Meanwhile by 2 pm today Waghai in Dangs has seen a moderate maximum of 97mm, Vadodara 93mm, Dang-Ahwa 76, Vansda in Navsari 68mm. Only 17 talukas have seen rain at or over one inch.

Notably, Ahmedabad is the fourth most rain scanty district in Gujarat so far with only 13.12 % of monsoon rain this season against the state average of 45.24. It is only above Kutch (11.03%), Gandhinagar (11.43) and Mahesana (12.05). Gir Somnath is the only district which has seen over 100% (128.93) so far.
