Himalaya, Ahmedabad One Mall make parking free

Ahmedabad: Following the directives given by the Gujarat High Court, the city police in Ahmedabad is actively working against parking of vehicles on roads in certain areas of western party of the city. And results are visible.

If you pass through Prahladnagar – Shayaml stretch these days, you would see number of police men including women cops standing on both sides of road. They make sure that cars or two-wheelers are not parked on the road surface. A gypsy vehicle of police keeps moving through the road and halts to make announcement that if vehicle is parked on the road side it would be taken away.

City police has issued around 250 notices to various buildings, businesses, units to make arrangement of parking for occupants and visitors.

Two major malls in Vastrapur – Drive-in area namely Himalaya mall and Ahmedabad One mall were charing for parking of vehicles in their premises. While many were paying for parking, many others were parking their vehicles outside the mall on roads and footpaths to save parking fees. With fresh intervention of police and strict enforcement, both malls have now stop collecting charges for parking and made it free. Thanks to police order they have also put up number of sign boards making announcement that parking is free.

At SAL hospital, the management has asked staff members to use public transport as parking is limited inside the premises. Visitors and staff members would park vehicles outside on the footpath and road-side area before police started strict enforcement.

The AMC had earlier sealed Rajpath Club on SG Highway for road-side parking of cars while traffic police had filed case against the management of Rajpath Club. Police started its drive against road-side parking on July 16. In six days, police has collected Rs 21.74 lakh fine from 14,347 traffic offenders.

The city has 45 lakh vehicles. The number of commercial vehicles in the city is far more than required. There’s no cap on issuance of permit for rickshaws. Parking places in many buildings are illegally used for commercial purpose.
