Congress leaders in Gujarat booked for consuming liquor, APMC vice chairman nabbed, Botad DPCC president on the run

Senior Congress leader and President of Botad District Congress Committee cum local APMC chairman D M Patel has been booked under various sections of The Gujarat Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 2017 after he was found consuming liquor in a farm-house of his deputy in APMC, Jorubhai Dhandhal in the outskirts of Gadhadia village under Paliyad police station of the district last evening, police said today.

While APMC vice chairman Jorubhai and his son Raghuvir Dhandhal have been caught, D M Patel and another one Lakhabhai Patel somehow managed to flee.

PI of Paliyad M C Zala today said that based on a tip off about a liquor party in the farm house of Jorubhai Dhandhal, a raid was conducted.
‘D M Patel, Jorubhai, Raghuvir Dhandhal and Lakhabhai Patel were found consuming liquor. Two bottles of the India Made Foreign Liquor were also recovered from the spot. During the raid Raghuvir attacked on the police party and injured a policeman. He and his father (Jorubhai) were however nabbed but D M Patel and Lakhabhai managed to flee,’ he said.

‘We have filed three separate cases in the matter two pertaining to prohibition and one against Raghuvir for obstructing police from performing its duty and attack on it. The cases have lodged under section 66(1)(B), 65 (E) and 81 of the Gujarat Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 2017 and section 114, 225, 332, 504, 506 (2) of the IPC,’ he said.

‘Jorubhai and Raghuvir would be produced in a local court today while attempts to nab D M Patel and Lakhabhai are being made,’ he added.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports claimed that D M Patel has been suspended from the congress party,however, state spokesperson of the party Manish Doshi said that so far he was not aware of it.
