How much the Centre spends on ads in Gujarati print ? Minister replies in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: The Government of India had spent around Rs 18 crore for advertisements in Gujarati newspapers in year 2015, Rs 15.40 crore in year 2016 and around Rs 25 crore in year 2017.

According to official figures announced, the expenditure on newspaper advertisement in Gujarati language out of budget of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in year 2015-16 was Rs 2,90,86,662 which was highest after Hindi, English, Urdu and Marathi.

In year 2016-17 Gujarati print media received Rs 2,65,51,783 ads from union I&B ministry which was highest after Hindi, English, Marathi, Urdu and Malayalam.

In year 2017-18, central I&B ministry released Rs 2,37,31,241 ads from the Centre which was highest after Hindi, English and Marathi.

I&B ministry in Centre released total Rs 66,27,32,580 ads in 34 languages in 2015, while in 2016 and 2017 the figure was Rs 67,78,38,713 and Rs 61,14,94,408 respectively.

The advertisements given from client ministries and departments(other than I&B ministry) were worth Rs 57,069.79 lakh in 2017, Rs 39,559.68 lakh in 2016 and Rs 44,441.20 lakh in 2015 across 34 languages.

Of which Gujarat newspapers received Rs 2348.83 lakh advertisements from Central ministries other than I&B in 2017, Rs 1274.79 lakh in 2016 and Rs 1514.03 lakh in 2015. In 2017 and 2016 it was highest after Hindi, English and Marathi print. In 2015 it was highest after Hindi, English, Marathi and Urdu print.

These details were shared by union I&B minister Rajyavardhan Rathore. In reply to another question, he also informed that 15% central govt ads go to small newspapers, 35% to medium and 50% to big newspapers. While 30% expenditure is made for English advertisements, 35% – 35% each is spent for Hindi and Vernacular language newspapers.

All in all the expenditure for advertisements by Bureau of Outreach and Communication(BOC) under I&B ministry and other client ministries/departments o Govt. of India was Rs 1190.53 crore in 2015, Rs 1279.83 crore in 2016 and Rs 137.26 crore in 2017.
