Gujarat to get 5 new Govt Polytechnics from Centre at Narmada , Tapi, Junagadh, Kheda and Navsari: MoS replies RS MP Parimal Nathwani

New Delhi: The Central Government is in process of setting up 300 new government polytechnics in the country, of which 05 new government polytechnics will be set up in Gujarat. The new government polytechnics will be set up in Narmada, Tapi, Junagadh, Kheda and Navsari districts of the State. The Government has already released Rs32.12 crore towards Grant-in-Aid for setting up these new polytechnics. At present there are 3719 government polytechnics in the country, of which 132 located in Gujarat. Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Anantkumar Hedgde provided the information in Rajya Sabha on July 25, 2018 while replying to a question from Member of Parliament Shri Parimal Nathwani.

According to the statement of the minister, a scheme of “Setting up New Polytechnics” under the “Sub-Mission on Polytechnics under Coordinated Action for Skill Development” has been launched during the 11th plan. The scheme has been transferred from Ministry of Human Resources Development to Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in 2017, he said.

Shri Nathwani wanted to know about total number of polytechnics located in the country and the government’s plan to set up new polytechnics in the different states of the country and allocation of funds made towards the same.

According to the statement, the government will also set up 17 new government polytechnics in State of Jharkhand. The new government polytechnics will be set up in Gharwal, Sahibganj, Pakaur, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Girdhi, Deoghar, Godda, Hohardaga, Pashchimi Singhbhum, Chatra, Palamu, Jamtara, Ramgarh, Simdega and Dumka districts. The government has already released Rs125.35 crore towards Grant-in-Aid for setting up the new government polytechnics in the State.

The minister also stated that Government of India provides one-time financial assistance of Rs12.30 crore pre polytechnics to the State/Union Territories Governments for setting up of new government polytechnics in 300 un-served and under-served districts of the country.

According to the statement, the highest 41 new government polytechnics will be set up in Uttar Pradesh followed by 34 in Bhihar.
