All police vehicles in Gujarat to have GPS; process of recruitment of 5,600 soon

Gandhinagar:

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani today gave several instructions to the state police including putting Global Positioning System (GPS) in the patrol vans and all other police vehicles, keeping a strict eye on social media rumours and foil any attempt of mob-lynching.

After a conference with police officials from across the state here in which DyCM Nitin Patel and Chief Secretary J N Singh were also present, MoS Home Pradipsinh Jadeja informed this.

Taking to newsmen after the police conference in which he also participated, Jadeja said that the GPS system would enable the real time monitoring of the police patrol vans and other vehicles and enhance the efficiency of functioning of police.

To a query he said that the government would not tolerate any case of mob lynching and rumour mongering over social media. ‘To keep an strict eye on the social media rumour mongers who try to disturb the social harmony and cyber crimes, the police is also upgrading itself. The police will be getting special training by Gujarat Forensic Sciences University and Raksha Shakti University about it. Several related technologies from Israel, a deal for which was struck during the recent visit of CM Rupani, will be bought and the formalities for the same were in the final stages of negotiation. Several senior police officials have been given the duty to monitor the social media rumours and criminal activities,’ Jadeja added.

To another query he also said that upgrade of police structure would also be done. Last year 18000 police personnel were recruited and this year 5600 more would soon be recruited. Various Taluka level police stations would be upgraded with PI rank officer as head instead of PSI. In big cities like Ahmedabad and Surat new police stations would be set up in thickly populated areas. 4 new cyber police stations and cyber sails and cyber lab would also be set up.
