Chances of re-activation of Monsoon in Gujarat from August 17, another system over bay of Bengal might end dry spell

Ahmedabad:

The current dry spell in Gujarat might end from August 17 due to expected re-activation of monsoon in the western state.

The IMD bulletin today has issued heavy rain warning for August 17 and 18. The bulletin reads,’ heavy rain very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Valsad, Navsari and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli.’

A senior official of the IMD center today said that the chances of rains in Gujarat mainly in parts of South Gujarat from August 17 have emerged as another low pressure has built up over bay of Bengal. It is likely to cause rain in Gujarat after a few days. But at this juncture it can’t be said that it would be a widespread rain across Gujarat or not. And more importantly it is not yet sure whether Saurashtra region where farmers were eagerly waiting for a good spell of rain for their parching crops, will also get such rain or not.

‘It is premature to say anything now. The picture will be more clear after a few days,’ he said.

Meanwhile, the scattered spell of light to slightly moderate rain at isolated places in the state continued today as well. Waghai in Dangs has seen 10mm till 6 pm today, Kaprada in Valsad, Kukarmunda of Tapi district Subir in Dangs, Vapi in Valsad Dharampur in Valsad also saw 7 to 9 mm or rain.

Notably Gujarat which has so far seen over 55% monsoon rain has so far seen maximum 383 mm of total 464 mm of state average rain in July. June had seen only 68 mm while August so far has seen only 14 mm of average rain.
