AMC installs first RFID gate in BRTS corridor at Nehrunagar

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started installing automated swing gates that disallow all other vehicles except the BRTS buses in dedicate lane for Bus Rapid Transit System(BRTS). Each swing gate costs nearly Rs 2 lakh.

Every BRTS bus is fitted with a special radio frequency identification device (RFID) tag, which is essentially a microchip. The same chip is also installed on the swing gates. When BRTS bus approaches, the frequency of RFID matches with that of swing gate and it opens. The gates automatically close once the bus passes.

At present, the first such gate has been fitted at Nehrunagar circle on experimental basis.
