Water level in Sardar Sarovar Narmada reservoir rising again due to running of hydel power units in MP and increased inflow

Vadodara:

The water level of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam reservoir, the lifeline of Gujarat’s water supply, is rising again from today as expected due to increased inflow from Madhya Pradesh side.

The water level which after seeing a rise of 13.41 meters in around 20 days till yesterday had started declining yesterday itself due to decreased inflow from Madhya Pradesh and increase of outflow due to supply for agricultural needs. It went down up to 124.45 till 11am today and then it again started rising with increase in inflow. At 3 pm today the water level was 124.54 m and the live storage was 2040.50 million cubic meter (around 35% of total live storage capacity).

The inflow was 46083 cusec while the outflow was around 10266 cusec. The water level is rising.

And the good news is that the increased inflow of water from MP side is likely to continue despite not much there for sometime as the hydel units in the state due to running of which the water has arrived are still running.

Notably the new overflow mark of the dam after installation of sluice gates last year is 138.48meter. It was 121.92 m earlier on.

The state government has ordered release of water in all the canals for irrigation purposes to save the standing crops in the wake of delay in another spell of monsoon rain.
