Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam reservoir level reaches 125.88 meter

Vadodara: The water level of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam reservoir, the lifeline of Gujarat’s water supply, after minor fluctuation was rising again and has reached 125.88 meter till 5pm today.

Due to fluctuation in inflow from Madhya Pradesh owing to start and closure of hydel power units at Indirasagar and Omkareskhwar, the water level also saw some downward trend and in the first half today it had gone down by 3 cm but it has again started rising even though no hydel unit in MP is running since 3 am today.

As per official data received from SSNNL flood control unit here, the inflow 5pm was 68461 cusec and outflow was 14860 cusec. An official of SSNNL said that as there was sufficient water storage at Indirasagar reservoir, the hydel units though closed now would certainly run again and the flow towards Gujarat is likely to continue. The water released from Omkareshwar due to running of hydel unit reaches Sardar Sarovar at Kevadiya in around 24 hours. The increased amount of water that we are receiving now was released before the closure of the hydel units. The water inflow would decrease from early morning today and would rise again once the hydel units were started again.
The live water storage was also rising despite continuous increase in outflow for meeting the agricultural needs as per the recent decision of the state government to supply water in all the canals for saving the standing crops due to delay in another spell of monsoon rain.

At 5 pm the live storage was 2283.26 million cubic meter ( 39.06% of total live storage capacity). It has also seen a significant rise of more than 3.68% in the last 4 days.
Notably the new overflow mark of the dam after installation of sluice gates last year is 138.48meter. It was 121.92 m earlier on.

Though the river bed hydel unit of SSNNL is not running for increasing the storage of water yet owing to supply to canals for irrigation purposes 3 of the 50 MW capacity each units of canal head power house were running.
