Vadodara: The water level of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam reservoir, the lifeline of Gujarat’s water supply, is seeing minor fluctuation and after a drop of around 11 cm in 48 hours due to continuous supply for irrigation purposes to save the standing crops, has seen a rise of around 2 cm again.
The water level at 6 pm today was 125.79 m and live storage was 2266.96 million cubic meter (MCM) which was 38.78% of total live storage capacity. The inflow which has fallen down to as low as 397 cusec during last 24 hours due to no fresh supply from Madhya Pradesh side and running of 4 of the 5 hydel power units of canal bed power house, has gone up to 15601 cusec as one of the running power house has been closed now. The outflow was marginally lower at 15310 cusec.
An official of the SSNNL today said that after closure of all the hydel power units connected with Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar dams in Madhya Pradesh since 3am on September 13, three at Indira Sagar and 2 at Omkareshwar are again running from 6 pm today. It will cause some increase in inflow after around 20 hours.
Notably the new overflow mark of the dam after installation of sluice gates last year is 138.48meter. It was 121.92 m earlier on.
Though the river bed hydel unit of SSNNL is not running for increasing the storage of water yet owing to supply to canals for irrigation purposes 3 of the 50 MW capacity each units of canal head power house were running.
