Brief Monsoon session of Gujarat Assembly likely to be stormy, six bills to be tabled, Congress in aggressive mood

Gandhinagar: A total of six bills (mostly the amendment bills) are slated to be tabled during the 2 day brief Monsoon session of Gujarat assembly to be held from tomorrow.

The main opposition Congress has also given a no-confidence notice against the Vijay Rupani government and this proposal could also be tabled on day two ie September 19 in the house. Despite its brief period the session is likely to remain stormy due to the apparently aggressive mood of Congress and its announcement of gherao or the assembly tomorrow on farmers issue including loan-waiver. It has also claimed to raised farmers and other issues against the government in the house strongly.

Meanwhile, Assembly Secretary D M Patel said that on the day one tomorrow the house would be adjourned after condolences and a special condolence motion on the demise of late former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

On day two there would be two sittings of the house. Four bills pertaining to GST, Flat ownership and local body related ordinance and the one about increase in the punishment for chain snatching would also be tabled in the house in the first sitting. Two other bills including the one regarding setting up of Biotech University and the one regarding amendment in Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Act would be tabled in the second sitting the same day.

To a query about the no-confidence notice of Congress deputy speaker Shailesh Parmar under rule 106, Patel said that it was under consideration by the speaker. If it is tabled in the house, it would be on second and the last day itself.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress president and party MLA Amit Chavda and Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani today said that the party would go ahead with its assembly gherao event tomorrow. Party MLA Lalit Vasoya said that the party has been granted permission for a meeting and not the gherao event but the party would go ahead for it.

A senior police official said that a three layered security arrangement in and around the assembly building has been made to prevent any untoward incident in the wake of Congress event and also the routine security during the assembly session. Around 300 police personnel including 4 DySP, 10 PI, 25 PSI would be deployed for the security.

Ruling BJP has also held a meeting of its MLAs here in which CM Rupani and Deputy CM Nitin Patel along with party whip Pankaj Desai were also present. The strategy of the party to counter Congress is also likely to be made in it.

Prior to the meeting Dy CM Nitin Patel said that the government would table various bills in the session including the one which makes provision for stricter provision of punishment for chain snatchers. ‘The maximum punishment for such events which causes a lot of difficulty to our women folk was 7 years and the culprits got bail easily but now the government would make it more than 7 years so that it becomes harder for them to get bail,’ he said.

Notably the session of the house would be only second of the 14 th assembly which was constituted after election in November last year.
