50 Volvo buses inducted to GSRTC

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today inducted 50 Volvo buses as part of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, popularly called ST, to provide improved road transportation for the public.

Speaking at the function, he said these buses are fitted with LED TV, Wi-Fi devices, mobile/ laptop charger facility in every seat. He congratulated the staff for their efficiency, ST leading in the country in real-time monitoring and maintaining punctuality of buses with the help of GPS linked to Command & Control Centre.

He said the government has been keen to provide good governance for people’s welfare services in road transportation, health, education, etc. and would remain so in future also. The government is not just for the moneyed people, but also poor.

Rupani said that ST also provided special buses for marriages at concessional rates, ranging from Rs.1,200 to Rs.3,000. The service is available from all the 125 depots in the state. The government is concerned that auspicious moments do not turn sad, being compassionate towards victims of road accidents in private vehicles.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel said that ST depots are being upgraded to increase the share of Volvo buses, as per the need. The ST Depot at Naroda has started building buses’ body. The ST provided buses for pilgrimage by senior citizens. Nearly 25 lakh passengers travel daily in ST buses, covering 99 per cent of the villages.

Minister of State for Transport Ishwarsinh Patel also spoke on the occasion.

Those present at the function included GSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Sonal Mishra, Gandhinagar Mayor Pravinbhai Patel, MLA Shmabhuji Thakor, officers and employees of ST.
