Gujarat govt doubles the risk covered amount in Farmers Accidental Scheme, includes sons,daughters and wife of farmers in it

Gandhinagar: In yet another significant pro farmer decision, the Gujarat government today announced to double the risk covered amount under Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme from existing Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh for accidental deaths cases and from Rs 50 thousand to Rs one lakh for serious injury/ disability.

The government has also increased the base of those covered by including the sons/daughters and wife of farmers also in the scheme.

Addressing press conference Dy CM Nitin Patel today said that the scheme which was implemented in January 1996 had a total of 732559 farmers as beneficiaries of late.

‘Now the government has taken a decision to include the sons and daughters and wife of farmers also in the scheme. With this the base of those covered would increase to an estimated 2.49 crore. The premium paid under the scheme by the state government would also increase to around 70 to 80 crores instead of earlier around 30 to 35 crores,’ he said.

‘Now all the sons and daughters and wife of farmers in Gujarat would also get similar benefits under the scheme,’ he informed.

The scheme had originally provision of Rs 20 and 10 thousand for death and disability and these were raised twice in the past too.
