Assam Congress tweet links Gujaratis to fraud crimes; attracts sharp reactions in response

Ahmedabad: India’s main opposition Congress party today mentioned a word ‘Gujarati’ in tweet and attracted sharp reactions.

Assam Congress through its official verified twitter handle @INCAssam tweeted a link of the Times of India article titled ‘Rs 5,000 cr bank fraud: Nitin Sandesara, family may have fled to Nigeria’ and wrote: Another Gujarati, one more bank fraud, same modus operandi of fleeing from the country. #Chowkidar ji sleping during his duty!

With such tweet, general impression was created that Congress party apparently typecast the people of Gujarat as frauds. It’s worth mentioning here that Vadodara based industrialist Nitin Sandesara had committed bank fraud during Congress-led UPA government in the Centre. It was CBI under Modi government that booked Nitin and others through ED and CBI and started procedure against them. It must be noted that during the Uttar Pradesh elections, Congress ally Akhilesh Yadav had used the term, ‘Gujarat ki gadhey’ in election campaign and attracted outrage on social media.
