September 26, 2018
Bhuj: At least 30 peacocks/peahens died near a pond in Gagodar area under Rapar taluka of Kutch district in Gujarat today.
Local RFO M A Qureshi said that the 30 peacocks including 25 she-peacocks or peahens have prima facie died of food poisoning.
The spot from where the dead national birds have been found was in the area where a big religious fair was going on. They had consumed wheat grains and millets etc and later died.
‘It is suspected that the wheat/millet had somehow turned poisonous. We will send the viscera of the birds for FSL and other lab test,’ he said.
