Halvad town on strike after communal clash

Morbi: Halvad town of Morbi district is observing strike today protesting against attack on Sauratshtra region Bajrang Dal coordinator Bhavesh Thakkar and Alpeshbhai Patel by Sandhi community Muslims in Jugrivas area of town.

Both injured are taken to Zydus hospital in Ahmedabad for further treatment. They were attacked by a group of 50-60 persons with swords and sharp weapon.

It is learnt that Bhaveshbhai, Alpeshbhai and others were called by Muslims for compromise over an incident pertaining to recent Tajiya procession. During the meeting to discuss compromise, both faced attack after some arguments.

In reaction, a group of Hindus burnt down two scrap yards on Tikar road, just outside Halvad town.

Police has rounded up 13 persons and booked 22 for rioting and attempt to murder.

Bajrang Dal has meanwhile given indefinite strike call.

Updates: State Transport buses passing through Halvad town are diverted to prevent damage. Some incidents of arson have happened in market areas. The strike call has evoked total support. Protestors burnt tyres near Sara Chokdi.
