Lion deaths extremely serious issue, come back with details of cause of deaths in a week: SC to Centre and Gujarat govt

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given a week time to Government of Gujarat and Centre to file reply on actual reasons of deaths of 21 lions in last 18 days in Gir forest area of Gujarat.
A bench headed by Justice Madan Lokur was hearing a bunch of Public Interest Litigation(PILs) regarding relentless industrialization of lion habitate area in Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
The apex court bench raised questions over recent deaths of big cat in Gujarat and termed it an ‘extremely serious matter’ to which the court was concerned.
The Gujarat government counsel said this was a phenomena in every monsoon in addition to which infection was reason of recent lions deaths.
Additional Solicitor General Nadkarni stoo up and said he woud need to collect detail regarding causes of deaths of lions in Gir.
Justice Lokur said it is all over in media and it’s a very serious matter.The court would want to know the cause of big cats .
The court asked counsel of State and Centre to and collect the details in a week time and come back.
