Scrapped notes of Rs 1000/500 of face value of over 69 lakhs recovered in South Gujarat, 2 arrested

Navsari: Scrapped notes of Rs 500 and 1000 of face value of over 69 lakhs were today recovered and two persons were arrested in this connection in Navsari district of South Gujarat,’ police said today.
Police said that based on a tip off the two people on a motorcycle were stopped and checked near Agrawal college on Viranjali road in Navsari town yesterday. 1451 Scrapped Rs 1000 notes and 10913 of such Rs 500 notes with total face value of 6907500 were recovered from a bag in their possession. The duo identified as Mohamed Zuber (47) and Ramesh Ravan (46) both residents of Varachha area in Surat were arrested.
The IT department was also informed about it.
Earlier on October 3 this year such notes of face value of Rs 3.70 crore were seized and four people were arrested in Anand district.
Prior to that Rs 3.36 crore face value of scrapped notes were recovered in Khatodara police station area of Surat city on August 19 from 3 persons.
In all the three cases, people arrested with scrapped notes were trying to somehow exchange these notes with genuine currency.
