Statue of Unity may witness visits of school children from across nation, place in school syllabus

Bharuch: On visit to Statue of Unity, union school education secretary Rina Ray today said the government is planning for tours of school children to Statue of Unity from schools across India.
Ray said she was in Gujarat for a purpose to study ‘Gunotsav’ annual inspection drive organized every year by the State government. She said the Centre plans to expand Gujarat’s Gunotsav initiative to entire country across all States and Union Territories.
She said talks are going on with NCERT for inclusion of Statue of Unity – the tallest statue in the world in school syllabus.
Sharing the details of recent directives issued by the Centre regarding weight of school bag, she said, the weight of school bag for class 3-5 students must ot be greater than 2-3 kg, school bag weight for class-1 students is capped at 1.5 kg. Class 1-2 students can’t be assigned any kind of homework. They should be taught languages and maths. Class 3-4 students can be taught languages, environment science and maths.
