Police asks not to start Sankalp Yatra procession from high security Lajpore central jail

Surat: Surat police has asked the Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) leaders to not to start their Sankalp Yatra slated for tomorrow, from high security Lajpore central jail.

PAAS has announced to organize a 25 km long Sankalp Yatra from the jail to Mota Varachha area in the city on the occasion of the release of its leader Alpesh Kathiria from jail.

PAAS leader Dharmik Malaviya said that they have sought permission for the Yatra to pass through Sachin area, Udhna, Khodiyar mata madir, station, Umiya temple- Puna gam etc to end in Mota Varachha area.

‘We had a meeting with police commissioner Satish Sharma and other police officials today and they suggested us to not to start it from the jail but we have offered them to volunteer in maintaining the traffic. We have not got any written permission as yet. But as we have already circulated the details of the yatra and its route and there were large number of Patidar community people in Sachin area close to Lajpore we can’t curtail the route,’ he said.

PC Satish Sharma on the other hand said that the police has granted them permission for the same but for a somewhat curtailed route.

‘We have given them permission for the yatra from Udhna tin darwaza and not from the jail,’ Sharma said.

Meanwhile Malaviya said that there won’t be any law and order issue and the yatra would be peaceful. Our around 300 volunteers would also help in maintaining the order. Our leader Hardik Patel is also in Surat for the past two days and holding meetings in Patidar dominated areas.

Malaviya also claimed that there were processions taken out from jail in the past. He said that they had also taken out one when Hardik had came out of the jail.

Hardik’s close aide Kathiria was arrested on August 19 in Ahmedabad in connection with a sedition case lodged there. He was granted bail by high court on November 20 but was already arrested in two other matter including another sedition case and an attempt to murder case lodged in Amroli police station here. He has been granted bail in both of them and is likely to walk out of jail tomorrow.
