PM Modi may flag off trial run of Metro train, dedicate Sardar Patel Institute of Medial Science and Research in Ahmedabad in January

Ahmedabad: The city may see trial run of its first metro train by February 2019. South Korea based Hyundai company has dispatched the first rake of three coaches from Hyundai Rotem port on Friday. They are expected to reach Mundra port in Gujarat by December 31st.

PM Narendra Modi is likely to flag off the first train on the six-km elevated corridor between Vastral Gam and Apparel Park in Maninagar in East Ahmedabad by mid-January. However, passenger run will start only after issuance of safety certificate from Railways.

During his visit, the Prime Minister may also inaugurate Sardar Patel medical institute built by Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) with State govt. aid in V.S. hospital campus. The super specialty public hospital project was ideated and initialized by PM Modi when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat with aim to give private five-star hospital like medical infrastructure and services to poorest needy person.

This six-km route will have six stations namely Apparel Park,Vastral Gam on both ends and Nirant Crossroads, Vastral, Rabari Colony and Amraiwadi in-between. Service on the second stretch, from APMC to Motera is likely to start by April.

A second train is likely to arrive from South Korea by January 26.

South Korean firm that won a Rs 1,025-crore contract will supply a total of 32 trains (36 coaches) for phase-I of the project.
