Accused arrested for diamond theft in Sparkle 2018 exhibition in Surat is lecturer in U.P. based Engineering college

Surat: A thief arrested for stealing Rs. 6 lakh value of diamonds from Sparkle 2018 diamond exhibition here has turned out to be a 38-year old lecturer working in IFTM University at Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.

According to Crime Branch ACP R.R. Sarvaiya, accused Prabhunash Virendradev Mishra(38) is resident of Saketnagar in district Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested from Kadodara. Police has recovered Rs. 6 lakh diamond from his possession. Prabhunath has completed M.Tech. He teaches Mechanics in privately run IFTM University at Moradabad.

According to police, Prabhunath arrived in Surat from Moradabad via Delhi and stayed at his sister’s house at Ahmedabad. He registered online through fake name of Kohar Engineering and Construction Pvt Ltd to visit Sparkle 2018 exhibition. He had stayed at friend’s house in Surat. His theft attempt was captured in CCTV cameras. Khatodara police and city crime branch nabbed him within hours after theft incident. Accused was traced through CCTV and mobile phone tracking according to police.
