Meeting at Modhwadia’s residence not about any discontentment withing Congress, different leaders have different style of functioning: Chavda
December 27, 2018
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda today claimed that the meeting of over a dozen senior and junior party leaders at the residence of former party president Arjun Modhwadia here last night had nothing to do with any ‘discontent’ within the party.
Talking to newsmen here Chavda though tried to play down the incident yet he admitted that the working style of various leaders in the party was different.
He said that there was nothing wrong with the meeting which was also attended among others by deputy leader in assembly Shailesh Parmar, former union minister Dinsha Patel and first time MLA Alpesh Thakor.
‘We all belong to one Congress family. There were no differences among us as such. The party high command gives the responsibility to various leaders and others support them. Our president Rahul Gandhi, whose popularity was growing day by day, has given the GPCC president’s responsibility to me and LoP’s to Paresh Dhanani,’ he said.
The meeting of yesterday was to discuss issues regarding Loksabha election and the points coming out of it would be further discussed in the next coordination committee meeting of the party. There was nothing surprising about such meetings as we all were working for the betterment of party’s performance in the next LS polls.
To a query that Alpesh has said that he and Dhanani should change the style of functioning, Chavda said that he has not seen any such statement. He, however said that the style of functioning of various leaders remain different.
Notably, the meeting at Modhwadia’s place has raised a ripple in the congress quarters here. Though Modhwadia had also said that the meeting was about LS polls yet it is learnt that around 17 leaders attending it had expressed displeasure over the functioning of the Chavda, Dhanani duo.
