Lok Sabha passes Bill for 10 per cent Quota for poor

New Delhi:The Lok Sabha was adjourned Sine Die on Tuesday after passing the historic 124th Constitution Amendment Bill that seeks to guarantee 10 per cent reservation to the economically weaker sections among general castes.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the House passed some important bills, including DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018, The Citizenship Amendment Bill and the the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018.

The Speaker said 4,600 starred Questions were taken up and during Question Hour, 81 important matters were raised, she said.

Members sat for more than 48 hours to discuss important matters, the Speaker informed.

Under Rule 377, a total 224 matters were discussed, Ms Mahajan said, adding that Standing Committees presented 42 reports.

Of the listed Bills, 82.35 per cent of them were passed.

A discussion was held on Rafale deal under Rule 193 which lasted for 8 hours and 21 minutes and Defence Minister gave reply. The matter of cyclone in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Odisha was also discussed.

Ms Mahajan said as many as 49 members were suspended under Rule rule 374A of the Lok Sabha for creating ruckus and continuously disrupting the proceeding for days.

The Speaker said all spoke well during the debates and named members including Sushmita Dev, Supriya Sule, Meenakshi Lekhi, N K Premachandran, Bhartruhari Mahtab and Kalyan Banerjee.

Ministers gave 42 statements on different issues, she said.
