Surat sessions court cancels PAAS leader Alpesh Kathiria’s bail

(Alpesh’s verbal abuses post targeting police)

Surat: Sessions Court in Surat has cancelled PAAS (Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti) leader Alpesh Kathiria’s bail.

City police commissioner Satish Sharma said this is very important verdict and it gives clear message to all those out on conditional bail that they need to comply with conditions declared by court.

Sharma said, ‘ ever since Alpesh was out on bail, he was taking law and order in own hand, he tried to prevent police performing its duty, he involved into verbal abuse, we will obey the court order and take him back to custody.’

Alpesh was arrested in sedition case. He was released on conditional bail on 3 December this year by sessions court in Surat. According to condition number 5 in verdict, Alpesh had to maintain law and order. The court cancelled Alpesh’s bail today due to breach of this condition on his part.

Alpesh’s lawyer said the court had in its order not asked Alpesh to surrender which could be termed as relief. Alpesh’s lawyer further said that he would move High Court to challenge the lower court order on cancellation of Alpesh’s bail. He said police had filed six complaints in a day against Alpesh who was out on bail. In two-three cases he was yet not arrested.

According to government lawyer Nayan Sukhadwala, Alpesh was put in jail under serious charges of sedition. He was given conditional bail with provision that he would not misuse personal liberty granted to him and maintain law and order. However his recent behavior was very much in public. A video CD of his verbal abuses to police and his behavior was submitted in court. The argument continued for two hours after which Principal Sessions Judge RK Desai decided to cancel Alpesh’s bail.
