Ahmedabad: Addressing a gathering after inauguration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Science and Research (SVP hospital) here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was amazed (mantra mugdha) after seeing a public hospital of this scale. Modi said it was like a dream fullfilled. Modi pointed out that this was the first public hospital of country with helipad facility. Modi congratulated all those involved in success of this project. He said the new hospital will take medical care in this city to new heights.

He said, when we started discussion about this hospital in 2011-12, allegations were made against me. But now whoever sees this hospital will know on how the common people’s requirements are addressed. We hardly see creation of world class facility for common people of the country. He said SVP is a government hospital with Helipad for air ambulance. Two decades ago, the government hospitals had perception of lacking infrastructure.

He said the hospital will offer free treatment to those beneficiary of Ayushyaman Bharat scheme which has already benefited 7 lakh needy patients in 100 days. Modi also spoke about reforms made to increase the number of doctors. He spoke about ceiling of rates implied on medical instruments such as stent and important medicines by his government. He spoke about dialysis centres opened by government in 450 districts, affordable generic medicine shops, health and wellness centres initiative, increase in number of medical education seats.

He said over 18,000 MBBS and over 13,000 PG medical seats have been increased by BJP government. A scheme to set up at least one medical college in three parliamentary seats is in pipeline.

PM Modi congratulated Gujarat government for being first to implement 10% reservation quota allocation to economic weaker section. He said 10% quota benefit will be implemented across the universities and affiliated colleges from upcoming academic year. 10% seats will be added to implement new quota.
