The sole tiger traced recently in Gujarat after almost decades found dead in central Gujarat forests

Lunavada: The around seven to eight year old tiger which was traced by the forest department recently in the forest of Mahisangar district in central Gujarat and was first ever confirmed presence of tiger in Gujarat after around 3 decades, has died seemingly due to non-adoption to the new environment.

A senior official of the forest department said that the decomposed body of the beast has been found from a forest in Mahsisagar district.

‘The beast was not killing animals to feed it for at least 8 to 10 days. We are yet to verify many other aspects,’ he said adding that the last kill by the tiger was around 10 days back.

Notably on Februay 12 the forest department had confirmed the presence of tiger in Gujarat. Its pictures and videos were captured in the night vision camera put in the area by the department. Its pug marks were also traced. A local teacher had earlier taken its photo in his mobile camera,

It was after 1992 that a tiger has been seen in Gujarat. Almost 26 years ago it was seen in Dangs area of South Gujarat.

It was understood that it had entered in Gujarat from Madhya Pradesh, Mahrashtra or Rajasthan as tigers were present in the forests of all the three neighbouring states.

He said that a total of 10 night vision cameras were installed in the forests to track the tiger.

Notably, the teacher in Goriya area of the district Mukesh Mehra had taken picture of this tiger near Gadh forest around 20 to 25 km from here in the bordering area of neighbouring Panchmahal district on February 6. He had handed it over to the forest department for further verification.
