Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka in Gujarat to participate in CWC meeting

Ahmedabad: Congress President Rahul Gandhi, his mother and former president of the main opposition party Sonia Gandhi, sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi along with former PM Manmohan Singh today arrived here to participate in the party’s working committee (CWC) meeting to be held at Sardar Smarak in Shahibaug area of the city.

All the four leaders and other senior leaders of the party reached SVP International Airport and then went to Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi to participate in Sarv Dharm Prarthana Sabha (all religion prayer meeting). Before that they also visited the Gandhiji’s residence in the Ashram known as Hriday Kunj, in front of which the prayer meeting was held and offered cotton garlands on his picture. A spinning wheel (Charkha) was also gifted to the Congress president. CM of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh and other chief ministers of Congress ruled state have also arrived here and would participate in all the party events.

The CWC was to be held earlier on February 28 but was postponed due to border situation.

Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said that in first joint public stage sharing by the three members of Gandhi family, they would also participate in a Rally at Trimandir in Adalaj near capital Gandhinagar later in the day. The rally which earlier was named Jan Sankalp rally has now been re-christened as Jay Jawan, Jay Kisan, Jan Sankalp Rally.

 

He said that in all 60 top leaders of the party would participate in the CWC to be held at Sardar Smarak here. Former minister Anand Sharma, A K Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad and others including Mallikarjun Khadge, Harish Rawat and CM’s of the party ruled states would participate in it.

He said that the CWC being held in Gujarat after 58 years after 1961, would remain focused on the coming LS polls and the situation after the Pulwama terror attack.

He said that as the party fared very well in last assembly election in Gujarat and gave a message to the whole nation that BJP was not invincible, the CWC before LS polls was being held here. It is also the 150th birth anniversary year of Gandhiji, the beloved son of Gujarat.

Doshi said that the party leaders would be offering tributes to the martyrs of the nation including jawans who gave supreme sacrifice for the nation in Pulwama terror attack at Shahid Smarak situated close-by to the venue of the CWC meeting.
He said that the rally would be held at Trimandir. Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Manmohan Singh would remain present on the stage along with Rahul Gandhi.

 

 

Priyanka did not sit with brother and mother during Prathana sabha, prefers a backseat of sorts

 

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today did not sit on the main seat on which her brother and party president Rahul Gandhi, mother Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh sat during the sarvdharma prarthana sabha in the historic Sabarmati Ashram here.

All the three members of the Gandhi family who are here to participate in the CWC meet and a rally today had visited the the residence of Gandhiji in the historic ashram known as Hridaykunj together.

After that when the prarthana sabha or the prayer meet was held in front of the Hridaykunj, Priyanka chose to take a backseat of sorts as her seat among the other party leaders in the audience like rows rather than the main seat kept in front of it close to the stage from which the favourite bhajans of Gandhiji were sung on the occasion.

 

 

Pilot and Scindia claim that Rahul would lead the next government after LS polls

Ahmedabad: Two of the young turks of Congress, DyCM of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot and national general secretary of the party Jyotiraditya Scindia today claimed that Congress would form government at center under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi after the Lok Sabha polls.

Talking to newsmen Scindia claimed that the LS polls would bring complete change. ‘This government is not only anti farmer but also through its policies caused unemployment. The people would change it the way they brought change in MP, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan assembly polls,’ he said.

Pilot, who is also here to participate in the CWC meet of the party, said that the BJP government had created an environment of fear in the country.

He said that now the public would seek reply from the ruling party.

‘Congress will win the LS polls and would lead the UPA government the way it has won the assembly polls in the three states,’ he said.
