Congress MLAs on Dharna spend night inside Director of Agriculture Chamber

Gandhinagar: Three MLAs of main opposition Congress in Gujarat, who along with some farmer leaders had started dharna in the chamber of Director Agriculture in the state capital Gandhinagar spent last night there itself.

Congress MLAs Brijesh Merja, Chirag Kalaria and Rutwik Makwana are terming their protest on the issue of alleged discrepancy in payment of crop insurance, apolitical.

They had gone to meet Director of Agriculture in Gujarat Bharat Modi on the issue. Merja today said that they had made simple queries about details regarding distribution of crop insurance by the private company involved for the scheme.

Kalaria claimed that the Director first said that it would take time and then left the office saying that he had to attend a meeting and did not return. They decided to spend the night in the office itself as a mark of protest and even had their dinner and early morning breakfast their itself. The government has declared several areas water scarce but ironically has not given crop failure benefit to the farmers in those areas.

They spent the night in the chamber itself but later this afternoon they ended the dharna saying that they would approach the governor on the issue and if it remained unresolved even after that they would take it to the people of the state.

Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda who went there to meet them said that it was months old issue and the apathy of the government was disgusting.
