Rupani instructs civic bodies to ensure use of 75% treated/recycled water

Gandhinagar: Close on heels of the high level review of water availability across Gujarat, CM Vijay Rupani today hold a meeting of all the 8 municipal corporations and urban development authorities here to take stock of the situation of water supply and related planning.

He instructed the concerned authorities to ensure that in a year to two of the total utilization of water in the civic bodies 75% or 3/4th comes from the treated/recycled water.

CM Rupani also reviewed the arrangements of the civic bodies for water supply. He was informed that the civic bodies were capable of unabated supply of drinking water till July this year.

Earlier during the recent meeting regarding availability of water in the state, Rupani had said that despite scanty rain last monsoon and little water in various dams, there was plenty of water stock in the state for supply till the end of July while the normal period of arrival of monsoon in Gujarat was June 15.

Water supply minister Kunvarji Bavaliya, Chief Secretary J N Singh, Chief Principal Secretary to the CM, K Kailashnathan, Principal secretaries of water supply and urban development departments and various other officials and secretaries were also present in the meeting.

Mayors , Commissioners and chairmen standing committees of all the eight municipal corporations viz – Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar, Junagadh and Bhavnagar also participated in the meeting.
