Day on arrival of Monsoon in Gujarat, rain lashes over 50 talukas, 2 deaths due to lightening, no more heavy rain spells likely in coming few days

Gandhinagar: Light to heavy rain has taken place today in parts of Gujarat on the day after arrival of monsoon even as met has not predicted any more spells of heavy rains in the coming few days.

More than 50 talukas in the state had seen rain by 8pm today with Jambughoda in Panchmahal district topping the table with highest 71mm. Among other prominent rain getter talukas are Una in Gir Somnath district and Palitana in Bhavnagar 60 mm each, Gondal in Rajkot 51 mm, Visavadar in Junagadh 40, Bagasara in Amreli 30 mm and Umarpada in Surat 39mm. Kalavad and Lalpur in Jamnagar also saw around an inch of rain.

At least two rain related deaths, both of woman were reported today. A woman died in Valunkad village under Ghogha taluka of Bhavnagar district while another injured when lightening struck them. In a similar incident another woman died in Surendranagar district.

Rain is being welcomed by farmers everywhere as it was like a boon for sowing of crops. In Kutch district in Nakhatrana taluka’s Aamara village a local pond overflew due to rain bringing joy on the faces of villagers of this water scarce area. In Bhavnagar water logging on Sihore- Talaja road had caused some inconvenience to locals.

Met bulletin today has no heavy rain warning for the next five days.

In the last 24 hours ie on the day of the arrival of the monsoon 147 talukas of 31 districts had seen rain with Mendarana in Junagadh district seeing the maximum at 90 mm. Meanwhile the seasonal rain has crossed 8% mark in the state.

Temperatures are continuing to remain moderate across the state with Bhuj recording the highest of 38.4 degress Celsius. That in Ahmedabad city also remained 35 degree C.
