Fire brigade persons in Bhavnagar suffered a comic shock on Friday when they rushed to rescue a woman from committing suicide, but found that it was actually a film shooting going on.

The Police and the Fire Brigade rushed to the spot on city’s Waghawadi Road based Shoppers Plaza on Friday after receiving a phone call informing that a woman was going to commit suicide,

But when they reached the spot it came out that it was a shoot of a Gujarati film scene where the actress was supposed to commit suicide.

After coming to know the truth the Police and the Fire brigade officials took a sigh of relief.

Its a story of protest, and soon it is going to be a story of band baja and protest.

Activists of Janata Dal – Secular will celebrate first birthday of his protest against Saurashtra’s Dhoraji Municipality with band baja.

Dhoraji based Janata Dal Secular leader Arifbhai Bhensania started protesting against what he says illegal approval to mobil towers by local Municipality on 19 April 2010. He sat on symbolic fast during 11.00am – 5.00 pm opposite the Chief Officer office of Municipality. However even after one year, the situation has not changed. Therefore Arifbhai has decided to celebrate one year of his sit protest with band baja. Not only this, but Arifbhai has sent invitation card of his protest to the Chief Minister, the ministers and higher officials of the state. Arifbhai has printed this invitation in wedding-card style.

Meanwhile, reacting to Arifbhai’s protest, local Chief officer told media persons that Arifbhai has not yet produced credible evidence to support his claim that mobile towers spread radiation and they are harmful. The Chief Officer said that Dhoraji Municipality had contacted Health department to inquire about whether there are any hazards or side effects of mobile towers, but they have reacted that there are no evidence to tell that mobile towers help spreading cancer or fatal diseases. Chief Officer said Arifbhai and other protesters are misleading the public by doing fasts and other tactics.

Recently when Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation team went to Wallstreet building in Ellis bridge area to seal each and every office here due to lack of fire safety system, one office on eight floor literally challenged the process of sealing in a weird way.

The office owner had removed the main door of his office, to prevent AMC team sealing it!!

When AMC team reached eighth floor, the owner of the office said, his office was just like that. He said he didn’t believe in door culture!!

The AMC team was confused about what to do. They had to seal the office because it was court order to seal the buildings that are lacking of fire safety system.

After some discussion, and some consultation with higher official, the team decided to bring carpenter to fix the door.

The team brought extra workers to set up a new door, which was sealed then after.

Meanwhile, thanks to AMC sealing drive, those having shop/office in sealed tower are doing everything possible to obtain Fire safety NOC these days.

About a dozen buildings that were sealed only due to lacking of fire safety system have managed to get fire no objection certificate(NOC) within a week, and are unsealed now. Shapath, Agrawal, Maradia, Akik, Shefali are some of the buildings that are unsealed this way.

Ahmedabad’s Fire department has formed two teams – one each for east and west to issue fire NOC. The teams of Fire department visit each building that submits application for fire NOC. For each visit, the department charges Rs. 2500 for one tower. If things are not implemented well, the team visits again and charges Rs. 2500 again. Fire department team members do photography and videography of each building’s fire safety system before issuing NOC.

Those building sealed for ‘change of purpose’ or ‘parking space violations’ are not unsealed however, even if they obtain NOC for fire safety system.

Merubha said he was unheard by local police for long time about his grievances, therefore it was necessary to do something to attract attention of the police authority, for which he decided to climb the wireless tower in Rajkot Police Commissioner office compound.

Merubha threw his representation from the tower for the media persons gathered there. He was taken back to ground by local Fire Brigade officials.
