A suspicious unmanned abundant boat has been found at Gujarat’s Untada-Porbandar coast. This boat has some writing in Urdu language. There is nobody here to claim this boat and it doesn’t look like Indian boat. Investigation is on in this regard, but this incident creates a question that what actually our Indian Coast Guard is doing? Some time back a boat from Somalia came as close as 15 nautical mile off Veraval coast near Somnath. Coast Guard was informed about this boat by local fishermen who spotted it.

Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt launched Western India’s first daily Sanskrit newspaper ‘Sanskrit Vartaman Patram’ in Vadodara on Sunday in presence of Sanskrit students from MS University and Somnath University and a huge gathering of other dignitaries.

The newspaper was launched on Sunday amidst a huge gathering of dignitaries and Sanskrit students from M S University and Somnath Sanskrit University.

The newspaper, which has already hit the stands, caters to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, and Union Territory of Diu, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

Priced at Rs 1.50, the four-page daily will be published from here and cover local, national and international news and the annual subscription is Rs 500, Editor Praful Purohit said.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhatt lauded the efforts of the editorial board and said their objective should be to cater to everyone in the society including scholars who desire to read newspaper in the language they love.

M L Wadekar, Director, Oriental Institute of M S University and one of the members on the Editorial Board said that after receiving a good response to the pilot copy of this newspaper, they decided to launch it.

For enabling its readers to understand the language, the paper will include glossary of Sanskrit words translated in Gujarati, Hindi, English and other languages, he said.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a message said such efforts should be made to revive the glory of the world’s oldest language and further it.

Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary, Youths Culture and Sports, Gujarat government said the launch of a daily in Sanskrit is a positive beginning to popularise the language in the state.

The duty of advocate is to ensure justice for the people, India’s former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee said today during his address to students at National Law University in Gandhinagar. Sorabjee was Chief Guest of the function held on the occasion of seventh birth anniversary of the University.

Sorabjee said, while it is fine to take fees from client, at the same time he should not feel that there is purely a business going on. It is for advocates to see that their black gowns get respect.

Sorabjee also said, that any advocate should be appointed as senior advocate only it he fight at least six case in a year for free of cost.

Intrusion of Arabian sea waters broke protection wall and washed out 35 km coastal area of southern Gujarat’s Moti Danti village.

The villagers said, two-year old protection wall built by the government had faulty design, and therefore couldn’t survive against the sea water. Moti Danti is in Valsad district.

India sent back four Pakistani nationals, who were lodged in jails in Gujarat through the land route of Indo-Pak Attari border.

According to an official, the released Pakistanis were arrested after inadvertently crossing into India.

The Pak prisoners were identified as Misrimal, Bhimraj, Virji Shava and Jetha Kishan, all residents of Sindh province of Pakistan.

Justice Mohit Shantilal Shah will be the new chief justice of Bombay High Court, an official release Friday said.

Shah, presently the chief justice of Calcutta High Court, will be sworn in by Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Saturday, the release from the governor’s office said.

Shah succeeds Anil Dave, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court. Jainarayan Patel, who was serving as the acting chief justice of Bombay High Court, has now been appointed as the chief justice of Calcutta High Court.

Shah started his practice in Gujarat High Court in 1976. After obtaining an LL.M degree from Gujarat University, Shah served as a part-time professor in a law college and thereafter taught at the University School of Law at Ahmedabad.

He was appointed additional judge of Gujarat High Court in 1995 and became a full judge in the same court June 1997. Shah took over as chief justice of Calcutta High Court in December 2009.

A Pakistani fishing boat, that had entered into Indian territory, was intercepted and seized by BSF from Haraminala area near the west coast of Kutch, on Monday evening. Seeing the BSF troops, the men inside the boat jumped into the water and swam back into Pakistani territory according to BSP Inspector General A K Sinha.

Nothing suspicious was found inside the boat,” he said.

BSF has increased patrolling in the areas like Haraminala and Sir Creek areas near the Indo-Pak border off the Arabian sea coast, to prevent intrusion into the Indian territory.

In April, the Creek Crocodile Commandos of the BSF had apprehended a dozen Pakistani men, who were trying to infiltrate into the country, and seized two of their boats from the Sir Creek area.

The BSF had also foiled couple of similar infiltration bids by Pakistani fishermen near the Haraminala area on the Indo-Pak border in March.

Ahmedabad’s Rekhaben Doshit on Monday(21 June 2010) took oath as the first lady Chief Justice of Patna high court which enjoys its jurisdiction over whole Bihar. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi were present on this occasion.

The President of India has appointed Ahmedabad’s Ms Justice Rekhaben Doshit, a judge of the Gujarat High Court, as the chief Justice of Patna High Court.

The post of the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court fell vacant after Justice Dipak Misra took over as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

Ms Justice Doshit, 58, enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Gujarat in April, 1977. She was elevated to the Bench of the Gujarat High Court as Additional Judge in September, 1995 and confirmed as Permanent Judge in June, 1997.

Mr Justice M Yusuf Eqbal, a Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Gujarat on 17.4.1977. Started practice in June, 1981. Worked as Assistant to Government Solicitors from June, 1985. Worked as Assistant Government Pleader, High Court of Gujarat from January, 1989 to May, 1994 and as Additional Public Prosecutor, High Court of Gujarat from March 1991 to May, 1994. Was Panel Advocate of Gujarat Electricity Board from January 1993. Practised Constitutional, Civil, Service, Taxation and Criminal matters, and was specialized in Service and Sales Tax matters.

Elevated to the Bench of Gujarat High Court as Additional Judge on 18.9.1995 and confirmed as Permanent Judge on 18.6.1997.

Due to retire on 13.12.2014.
