Indo-German joint venture Schott Kaisha said it was looking at additional investment of around Rs 100 crore towards expanding pharma packaging products capacity at its Jambusar unit in Gujarat where it has already invested Rs 136 crore (€ 20 million) in first module that produces about two billion ampules and vials per year.The company will finalise details of expansion and investment plans after the completion of its first module by end of this year according to Kairus Dadachanji, Managing Director, Schott Kaisha.

Schott AG and an Indian company Kaisha Manufacturers had formed a joint venture for pharmaceutical glass packaging in 2008.The Jambusar plant has 20 production lines for ampules and 16 for vials, with scope for further expansion.Schott Kaisha achieved a turnover of Rs 160 crore in FY-12 and targeted turnover of Rs 240 crore in FY-13 and Rs 300 crore in FY-14, Dadachanji said.

Cooling products maker Fedders Lloyd Corporation (FLC) today announced its foray into wind turbine component sector by setting up a tower manufacturing facility in Bharuch district of Gujarat.

The B R Punj-promoted FLC has set up a wind turbine tower manufacturing facility, having annual production capacity of upto 250 towers, at Jambusar in Bharuch district of Gujarat with an investment of Rs 200 crore.

“We shall roll out the first wind turbine tower from our Jambusar facility by this month end. In the first phase, we shall be producing 150 towers annually for wind turbines upto 3 MW from here,” Nemichandra D Jain, Head, Wind Energy, FLC told PTI.

According to industry, the Government of India (GoI) has set up an ambitious target of having 20,000 MW of installed wind generation capacity under the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), against the current installed capacity of 13,000 MW across the country.

The production of wind turbine components is projected to triple over the next few years as India aims to have an installed capacity of 4,000 MW annually over the next five years to achieve the 12th Plan target of 20,000 MW, industry sources said.

According to FLC, considering the organised players into wind turbine component manufacturing in India and the projected demand, there would still be shortage of 1,200 towers annually. The company is negotiating with a leading wind farm developer in US to jointly develop sites in India and South Africa and expects to seal a deal by June this year.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a wind turbine tower plant of Feders Lloyd Corporation at Jambusar near Maganad in Bharuch district. Ms. Feders Lloyd has constructed the plant in a very short span at a cost of Rs.75 crore. The company has inked Rs.300 crore MoUs related to this plant with the Gujarat government.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that anti-Gujarat elements had made well-thought-out conspiracies to stop the country’s businessmen from setting up their plants in Gujarat. The Central government is also devising plans to shift the Gujarat’s industries to Maharashtra. He also asked the people of Gujarat to be aware of such plots which intends to defame Gujarat.

The Bharuch district was left in an undeveloped state a decade back. But now, it has become a district that is developing with the highest pace in the country because of the state’s policies of good governance, said Chief Minister.

Mr. Modi said that Gujarat lacks the necessary raw material in the form of natural resources, which is considered as prerequisite for growth. But even without it, Gujarat has put others behind in industrial development. “Gujarat doesn’t have iron-ore but it is on top in the production of steel. Gujarat doesn’t have coal but it is on top in power generation. Gujarat doesn’t have diamond mines but it is on top in diamond business.” This is the result of a right vision and political will, he said.

Chief Minister also gave outline of the State’s initiatives in solar power sector.

Minister of State Praful Patel, MP Mansukh Vasava, Bharatsinh Parmar, former Minister Chhatrasinh Mori, Feders Lloyd Corporation Limited’s Brijraj Punj, Bharat Punj, N D Jain and industry leaders were present on the occasion.

As a follow-up action of Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China, the latter’s energy sector firm TWBB here today signed a memorandum of understanding with Gujarat’s Atlanta Transformers and Electrical to set up an ultra mega high voltage power transformers and reactors plant on Padra-Jambusar Highway near Vadodara at a cost of Rs.400-crore as a joint venture.

It was signed by TWBB CEO Mr. Li Yuha signed for the Chinese company. The plant will start construction in February 2012 and start production from April 2013, to produce equipment ranging from 750-1200 KV.

Chairman of Atlanta group thanked the Gujarat government, Chief Minister and INDEXT-B for their support.

Mr. Li Yuhai said that TWBB has selected Gujarat for partnership keeping in mind the growth-oriented policies, quick decision making, transparency and absence of labour rage in Gujarat. He also invited Mr. Modi to visit TWBB plant in China.

Chief Minister outlined how the ties between Gujarat and China are growing up in various sectors. He said that Gujarat government is focusing on the renewable energy sources like solar, wind and tidal and has now become a power-surplus state. Looking at the demand for the infrastructure of power transmission, the new ultra mega high-voltage transformer plant will be instrumental in providing resources for power transmission.
Office bearers of Atlanta group, Industries secretary M. Sahu, Industry Commissioner B B Swain and MD of Indext-b Mukesh Kumar was also present on the occasion.
