Junagadh: Ganpat Vasava, minister of environment and forest, Government of Gujarat visited Gir sanctuary areas in wake of recent incidents of illegal lion shows. Additional Chief Secretary of department accompanied the minister.

An around 10 year old Asiatic lion died in Gir forests in Mendarana area of Junagadh district in Gujarat, a forest official said today.
The local RFO said that the lion died owing to illness in Kenedipur area of Gir forests yesterday.
'The post-mortem of the beast was done at the animal care center in Sasan-Gir and it was confirmed that it had died of illness. The body of the beast was laid to rest,' he said.

The body of a lion cub and a female leopard were found at two different places in the Tulsishyam range of Gir forests in Amreli district of Gujarat, a forest official said today.
The body of an around 6 to 7 months old lion cub, which most likely was killed in an in-fight of lions was found in the Bhaniya round of the forest under Khamba taluka of the district. The injury marks on the body of the cub indicates that these were received during lions in-fight.

A forest guard was injured by a lioness in Chachai round of Paniya range of Gir forests in Amreli district of Gujarat.
DCF Amreli Shakira Begum today said that B D Khambala, forest gurad of Karkadi beat one, was attacked by the lioness yesterday when he was on a routine patrol.
'It was an accidental attack. The forest guard with with injury in hand and waist was initially admitted to a hospital in Dhari but was later sent to Junagadh,' She added.

Close on heels of recovery of the body of a lion in the district, another such body of a big cat reportedly died of snake bite was found near Gorana village under Khamba taluka of Amreli today.
DCF Dhari M Kadupasami said that the body of one to one and a half year old old male lion was found near a farm in the village. The post -mortem report confirmed that it had died of snake bite.
