Gandhinagar: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to Union and Gujarat governments, Narmada Control Authority and others on a plea which claimed that owing to scanty release of water towards downstream from Sardar Sarovar Dam on the river in Central Gujarat the drying river bed was causing damage to the environment and other problems. Gujarat govt asks farmers not to rely on Narmada water for irrigation in upcoming summer

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today in a statement asked farmers to stay away from Narmada water oriented sowing in upcoming summer. The government in a statement said, dams in Narmada basin areas are having less than 45% storage at present. The farmers will be supplied irrigation water only upto 15 March 2018. Vadodara, 13 September, 2014 Narmada dam is overflowing for last five days, and around 35,000 visitors have visited the dam site in last four days to witness overflow. Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited(SSNNL) has earned Rs. 1.56 lakh revenue through the visitors. The dam started overflowing on Monday at 11.32 am. The peak level of overflow was 126.16 meter. Gandhinagar, 8 July, 2014 During the first phase of Sardar Sarovar Narmada project, construction of a network of branch and sub-branch canals has been completed in Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Vadodara and Panchmahal districts bringing 4,46,609 ha area under irrigation.
