Election Commission was quick enough to direct FIR against Narendra Modi when he was spotted with BJP’s election symbol lotus outside the 100 meter limit of polling station while interacting with news channels.
However same election commission was reluctant to direct any action against Congress MP and Rajkot Lok Sabha seat candidate Kunvarjibhai Bavalia who was wearing a scarf with Congress party’s election symbol inside the polling station while casting vote in presence of photographers and videographers.
While polling in Gujarat concluded on 30th of April itself, the presiding officer on behalf of the election commission filed FIR against Kunvarji Bavalia only now in Vinchhiya police station of Rajkot district.
Bavalia has been member of parliament for five years. He was MLA before that. He has been executive president of Gujarat Congress. There’s no reason to believe that he was unaware of election commission’s rule that party symbol can not be taken to polling station and 100 meter radius around in any form.
