Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat

Ahmedabad based special CBI court has today granted bail to retired IPS of Gujarat Police DG Vanzara in Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Vanzara will need to deposit Rs. 2 lakh surity. He has been asked by court to stay outside the limits of Gujarat. He will need to remain present in the court on every working Saturdays.

As Bombay High Court has earlier asked him to stay in Mumbai while granting bail in Suhrabuddin encounter case, Vanzara is likely to stay in Mumbai outside Gujarat.

Vanzara’s lawyer briefed media persons outside court that “the court was of opinion that chargesheet has been filed in this case, and after 18 months period post chargesheet Mr. Vanzara should be given bail. Moreover Mr. Vanzara has been in jail for last over 7.5 years continuously. Witnesses in this case are police officers, and therefore they are not likely to be pressurized or threatened. Mumbai High Court has in Sohrabuddin case asked Vanzara not to leave Mumbai. Considering this fact, Ahmedabad court has asked him to stay outside Gujarat. Shri Vanzara will need to remain present in Ahmedabad court on all official working Saturdays, and he will have to remain present during trial and when he is not able to remain present on any particular Saturday, he will need to inform the court and CBI in advance. His lawyer will be allowed to remain present on his behalf in such case.”

Vanzara’s son Prithvi Vanzara said, “we didn’t celebrate Diwali for last 8 years. This is a true Diwali for us.”

Vanzara’s brother KG Vanzara said, “you will not get officer like my brother DG Vanzara who can fight against terrorism. My brother is a spiritual man. He kept reading Geeta all day in Sabarmati Central jail. He has no plans to join politics.
