Mayors of municipal corporations to be selected on December 9

The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party will select the mayors of the six municipal corporations and the office bearers of the other local bodies won by it during the two phased elections held last month during its state parliamentary board meeting slated to be held here on December 9 and 10, party president R C Faldu said today.
Mr. Faldu said that the mayors of the six corporations in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar would be selected on the day one of the meeting which would also be attended by chief minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel.
He said that on the second day the presidents and other office bearers of the 41 municipalities, 6 district and 77 taluka panchayats would be selected.
‘The opinions of the elected representatives and party office bearers of all the local bodies would be sought for the purpose and then the board will decide the names,’ the BJP state president said.
Elections for the six out of total eight municipal corporation was held on November 22 while that for 56 municipalities, 31 district and 230 taluka panchayats took place on November 29. The counting was done on December 2.
