Una incident: Low key protests continue in pockets for brief periods

Ahmedabad/Surendranagar/Surat:

After causing extensive damage to public property including over a two dozen government and private vehicles during the Gujarat Bandh yesterday, the protests against Dalit atrocity incidents of Una continued today as well with unruly mob targeting the office of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Limbdi town of Surendranagar and disrupting rail traffic at Udhna railway station in Surat district.

The protestors torn apart the mast banner of the VHP office in Limbadi and also broke its board on the walk way in front of it. While they were busy in hooliganism, some policemen deployed there could do little. The protestors also shouted anti government slogans as well.

Over 600 protestors also entered the Udhna railway station and started protest on the railway track disrupting the traffic. Navjivan Express and some other trains were affected owing to this.

Dalit protestors also blocked the Rajkot-Bhavnagar highway near Dhasa in Botad district.

Rallies were also taken out at many places today as well. In Kadi town of Mahesana district a massive rally was taken out from Ambedkar chowk to Mamlatdar office. Such rally was also taken out in Sanand town of Ahmedabad district and many other places.

– Three ST buses were set ablaze by unknown persons near Kadi Taluka of Mahesana. Two were burnt on Detroj road while one on Kadi-Chhatral road. Some vehicles were damaged last night there also.

– In Gandhinagar police arrested one person near local ST depot for allegedly trying to set buses ablaze. A can filled with petrol has also been recovered from him.

– Protestors belonging to Dalit Panthers pelted stones over police in Dholka town after a rally and also damaged the glass of local Seva Sadan.

– SRP was deployed in Than town of Surendranagar district after a mob tried to burn a railway cabin and remove track.

– Over 25 people have been nabbed in connection with disruption of rail services at Udhna rly station today.

– Incidents of stone pelting were reported from various other places including Keshod in Junagadh.
