Speculations about my joining BJP in presence of PM Modi, baseless : Bavalia
April 08, 2017
Rajkot:
Senior Congress leader and former MP Kuvarji Bavalia today said that the speculations and rumours about his joining BJP in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event on April 17 in Botad, was ‘baseless’.
Bavalia, the former Loksabha MP from Rajkot today claimed that the rumour about his joining BJP was made ‘viral’ by the media cell of the ruling BJP.
‘Currently I am not well and am in rest. I have been given important responsibility by my party Congress but the BJP in an attempt to pull larger crowd for the meeting of the PM in Botad on April 17 was misusing my name and spreading the rumour,’ he said in a statement.
‘The claim that I am going to join BJP severing ties with Congress, was baseless,’ Bavalia, a leader from Koli community, which was dominant in many assembly segments in the state, said.
Notably, speculations about Bavalia and another former MP from Congress Somabhai Patel joining BJP in presence of Modi who would inaugurate the second phase of popular SAUNI project (related to supply of Narmada water to various dams in Saurashtra), were rife.
The state is to witness assembly polls this year as the term of the current assembly is going to be over by December. In such a scenario rumours and claims of such political switch-over are not uncommon.
