Pre-monsoon rain lash many districts, heavy rain warning for South Gujarat for June 11, 12

Ahmedabad: Parts of Gujarat today saw good amount of pre-monsoon showers even as the met has predicted more rain in the evening at isolated places and issued heavy rain warnings for two days on June 11 and 12 for Southern Gujarat.
Surat city and its rural areas saw over one inch of rain in last 24 hours during which water logging was seen in many low lying areas. A major accident was averted when a BRTS bus carrying around 30 passengers went in to a water filled underpass in the city. The passengers were brought out safely from the bus which remained half submerged in water for quite some time. ‘The bus driver despite advice of the traffic police to not to venture in to the Ashwini Kumar under pass took his vehicle in to it but later when he realized his mistake he stopped it midway. We had to take out the passengers,’ an onlooker who was among those involved in rescue of passengers said. Around half a dozen trees also fell down during rains accompanied by strong winds causing damage to vehicles parked under some of these in Katargam area. Valsad, Navsari, Bharuch also saw some rain today. Bhachau and Kandla area in Kutch, parts of Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Dahod, Chota Udepur, Ahmedabad etc also saw rain.
Amreli district also saw over an inch of average rain in many areas including Khambha, Savarkundala, Bagasara, Rajula etc. Farmers were joyed owing to the rain which was good enough to go for sowing of their crops. Surendranagar district also saw over an inch of rain, mainly in Chotila and surrounding areas. Ahmedabad city also saw some drizzle in the evening.
Meanwhile as the pre-monsoon shower occurred at several places and partially cloudy weather was witnessed at many places including Ahmedabad, the temperatures across the state saw further downturn. Gandhinagar which was the only place with 40°C temperature mark was the hottest today.
South Westerly moist winds have brought down temperatures. Ahmedabad which had similar second highest temperature with Deesa, Idar and Vallabh Vidyanagar at 39.6°C, was 1.1°C lower than the normal.
Met department has issued heavy rain warning for isolated places in South Gujarat and adjoining union territory of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
