Long pending demolition of obstructing houses begins: Work on Pal-Umra bridge to resume after four years

Surat: In good news for over 10 lakh residents of Adajan and Pal areas of Surat, the long pending construction for approach end of Rs. 89 crore Pal-Umra bridge over Tapi river may start soon with demolition of over a dozen houses obstructing the approach construction work has started today morning.
According to Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, construction of approach of Pal-Umra bridge will start after demolition of houses and it will be completed in around three months period. Pani said the bridge is 92 per cent completed four years ago. Rest of the works are pending due to litigation by some house owners.
After prolong court battle, Gujarat high court had cleared demolition of obstructing houses after November 29. Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) had agreed to allot alternative plots, construction cost and compensation amount to house owners.
This will be the fifth bridge over Tapi river connecting Adajan with different areas of the city including Athwalines, Nanpura, Chowk Bazaar and Umra. The Pal-Umra bridge will help in reducing traffic issues at the cable-stayed bridge and Athwalines bridge.
Pal – Umra bridge will be the fifth river bridge over Tapi in Surat. It will connect Adajan area with Athwalines, Nanpura, Chowk Bazaar, Umra and other areas. The new bridge will contribute in reducing traffic burden at cable-stayed bridge and Athwalines bridge.
According to Commissioner Pani, over 15 lakh people of will be benefited with completion of this bridge. Journey to airport, Pal, Umra, Rander, Athwa will be speedier. DeshGujarat
