Sikka thermal power plant shuts due to lack of coal

Jamnagar: The thermal power station in Sikka run by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSEC) will possibly remain shut till Diwali due to the shortage of coal, it is learnt. The thermal power station with capacity of electricity production of 9 thousand megawatt per day in Sikka has shut down for the last one month due to the shortage of coal. Both units at this thermal power station are inoperative at present and around 350 workers working in both plants are employed in maintenance work due to the same. The contract of supplying coal was given to an agency but the tender was cancelled as it failed to supply coal to all power plants. The process of issuing tenders to other agencies is started which will continue till Diwali. It is learnt that there is nil possibility of the resuming of this plant before Diwali.
