Surat: Customs department officials have seized Rs 32 lakh worth of gold from two natives of Ankleshwar who landed at the Surat airport in a flight that had arrived from Sharjah on Sunday.
The customs department had already stepped up vigil at the Surat airport after receiving verified information that two people arriving on the Sharjah-Surat flight would possess smuggled gold.
The customs department officials checked the luggage of Ismail and Adil, both natives of Ankleshwar, but couldn’t find anything objectionable. But because they had verified information, they checked more closely and found 600 gms gold concealed beneath the luggage trolley.
Both Ismail and Adil have confessed before the customs authorities that they had brought the gold for supplying to another party. DeshGujarat
