Bapunagar: Sitting legislator and Congress candidate from Bapunagar assembly seat in Ahmedabad, Himmat Singh has successfully prevented the potential division of Muslim votes in his constituency.
Bapunagar seat has sizeable Muslim votes due to the huge and continuing migration of Muslims from other States over the last several years. Due to added number of Muslim votes, Congress candidate Himmat Singh, a former Mayor of the city won the election in 2017.

However, in the upcoming assembly election, Shahnawaz Pathan, a candidate of the Owaisi-led AIMIM party, could cut the Muslim votes, causing damage to Himmat Singh. Attempts were started by Himmat Singh to prevent this damage, as a result of which, Shahnawaz has today withdrawn his nomination, making a way for the potential consolidation of Muslim votes in favor of Congress MLA and candidate Himmat Singh.
BJP has been winning all seats in Ahmedabad, barring those where Muslims are populated in decisive numbers. Due to the increased number of migrant Muslims from other States, the BJP first started losing Shahpur and Jamalpur seats in the walled city area. Last time, BJP also lost Bapunagar seat. DeshGujarat
