Anand: Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College (BVM), located in the educational town of Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, has conferred “BVM RATNA” on L&T Group Chairman Mr AM Naik during the College’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. The award has been given first time in 75 years.
During the event, the college management acknowledged Mr Naik’s overarching contributions to the industry and society, and especially cited how his extensive support has made a difference to BVM students and the faculty.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr AM Naik said, “It is a great honour and privilege to receive the ‘BVM Ratna’ on the auspicious occasion of the platinum Jubilee celebrations of BVM Engineering College. One thing I have to tell everyone is that no matter which institute you are affiliated with, do not give up and do not get overshadowed by people from premier institutes. If you have passion, conviction, and commitment, you can beat the world. I am a proud BVMite, and if A M Naik can do it, you can do it”.
Mr Naik is an alumnus of BVM Engineering College, which is an institution of Charutar Vidya Mandal. He pursued bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from here. BVM is the first engineering college of Gujarat founded in June 1948 and is also the first autonomous college of the state since 2015.
Coming from a humble family of educators, Mr Naik has pledged over 75% of his lifetime income to charity. With a special focus on education, skilling and health care, he has set up two charitable trusts — the Naik Charitable Trust for education and skill training and the Nirali Memorial Medical Trust. He also spearheaded the setting up of L&T’s Skill Trainers Academy (STA) at Madh in Mumbai in 2021. STA imparts high impact training to trainers engaged in the skilling ecosystem in India.
